Day 3 (Wednesday): Cairo

After breakfast tour of the famous Egyptian Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Cairo including the most famous shopping district in Egypt – the Khan el Khalili Bazaar. The Egyptian Museum of Antiquities is the greatest repository of ancient artifacts in the world, from the famed treasures of King Tutankhamon to the multitude of exquisitely carved statues and sarcophagi dating from the 1st Dynasty, to the highly evocative Mummies Room (extra entrance fee if you wish to visit). Continue to the Khan el Khalili Bazaar in the heart of Old Cairo for lunch at Naquib Mafouz Restaurant.

Afterwards, tour the most noticeable monument of Islamic Cairo – the looming fortress of the Citadel. Continue to the Sultan Hassan Mosque which is considered to be Cairo's finest example of early Mamluk architecture. In fact, many guide books refer to it as the finest ancient mosque in Cairo, and has been praised as one of the major monuments of the Islamic world.

After a stop for tea/coffee in the Khan El Khalili Bazaar return to your hotel later this afternoon.

Early this evening transfer back to the Giza Plateau for the Sound & Light performance at the Pyramids. Return to your hotel for overnight. (B,L)
